Alura Frazier

If you do right, right will follow you.”

The subject of the 1968 sanitation strike often comes up as Alura Frazier, Elmore Nickleberry and Willie Caldwell guide their garbage truck through the streets of Memphis each night. A wife and mother of five and a native Memphian, she’s received much advice from Mr. Nickleberry as they have worked together over the years. “He’s given me good advice on how to raise children, and he’s been very helpful,” she says. As a result, she has told her own family: “Don’t do anything crooked or illegal to get where you need to be. Do it the right way. If you do right, right will follow you.”
